About us
Leaving from the Royal William Yard, this private boat trip offers an exciting activity that’s suitable for everyone.
Plymouth is one of the best fishing ports in the UK, if not in Europe. We’re lucky to have the deep waters of the English Channel only a 35 minute sailing from our doorstep. Departing from Plymouth’s famous Barbican we proceed across the historic Plymouth Sound, flanked by the beautiful Devon & Cornish coasts. On passing the spectacular breakwater we make for the plankton-rich deep waters where the mackerel & bigger species await!
Conservation is at the core of our philosophy – we only harvest enough fish to satisfy your needs, the rest are released to fight another day.
The main target species is mackerel, however, we catch lots of different species throughout the year. After hopefully catching some mackerel, we make for one of the reefs or wrecks in the area, where we hope to catch other species, such as herring, whiting, gurnard, cod, dog fish, even pollock, pouting, ling and the infamous conger eel (weather permitting).
All equipment and safety gear is provided on board so you don’t need to bring a thing, simply dress for the weather!
After the fishing trip you’ll return back to the Royal William Yard and visit The Hook and Line, Seafood, café and bar to Cook what you have caught. The brainchild of fisherman, Ben Squire and hospitality expert Steve Page, The Hook & Line is a place to meet, eat and be merry!
Situated on the beautiful, south west coast of Devon and with our own fishing boats, Sidney Rose, Elin D and Barbican Rose, our mission is to serve simply cooked, delicious seafood dishes.
