Dartmoor
Plymouth is the largest city in Devon, making it a great base to explore our wonderful county. There’s beautiful beaches, breath-taking countryside – and of course, our vibrant city - to explore, making it perfect for a relaxing retreat, an action-packed adventure or a fun-filled family holiday.
There are plenty of Devonshire beaches just a short trip from Plymouth. The closest are Bovisands, a sheltered sandy bay, and the National Trust-managed Wembury, a great destination for walking and rock-pooling. Slightly further afield is Bigbury on Sea, where you’ll find the iconic landmark of Burgh Island.
To the north of Plymouth you’ll find the vast and imposing landscape of Dartmoor National Park. Covering 368 square miles, this moorland is home to ancient forests, rivers, rock formations (tors), Neolithic monuments, farmland and more. Walk for miles, come face to face with free roaming Dartmoor ponies or visit one of its towns and villages.
Heading further east from Plymouth, you can enjoy the beautiful South Hams with quaint towns including Kingsbridge and Dartmouth, which also played a role in the Mayflower 400 story.
If you love the outdoors and being active then Devon makes the perfect playground. Try your hand at water sports, hop on two wheels and explore the region by bicycle or get your walking boots on and stretch your legs with a hike through the countryside.
Devon is also home to a great range of family attractions - go wild at the zoo, get hands on at a farm or ride a rollercoaster! There’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained here.
