There aren't many better ways to spend a sunny day in winter months than heading for a beach walk with family, friends and of course dogs too!
Fortunately, we have a few pooch-friendly beaches where you can embrace the salty breeze and your dogs can dance on the sandy shores.
Check out some of our highlights...
Whitsand Bay
Venture on a short drive into south east Cornwall and you'll arrive at the stunning Whitsand Bay. Head down to the beach and you are met with three miles of sand which is plenty of room for a game of fetch with the dog.
Look left and you can take in the stunning Rame Head Peninsula, to your right is the south coast of Cornwall, which is equally as fascinating. Four-legged friends are welcomed all year round here.
Wembury
Take a picturesque journey south east of Plymouth and you'll arrive at the stunning Wembury Beach.
Owned by the National Trust the beach is also home to its own Marine Conservation Centre. Situated in an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's a quiet and cute beach to entertain the family.
From here you can see the uninhabited Mewstone Rock out at sea, and beautiful cliff faces on either side of the beach.
The beach is friendly for dogs throughout Autumn, Winter and Spring as dogs are allowed between 1 October and 30 April.
Bovisand Bay Beach
A sheltered bay of soft yellow sand and cliffs on either side head to Bovisand just south of Plymouth for a perfect winter stroll.
Like Wembury, it finds itself in an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is popular among locals and visitors alike. Dogs are allowed to stretch their legs here all year round.
Mothecombe
If you're after a slightly quieter beach in south Devon, Mothecombe may be the sandy destination you are after.
Escape the wintery breeze thanks to its sheltered rocky location and while the weather may not be at its warmest, here you'll come across the finest sand for you and the family to make foot/paw prints in.
Dogs are welcomed here during the winter months from 30 September until 1 May.
Bigbury on Sea Beach
Another beach that falls into the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is Bigbury on Sea Beach. Its open surrounding areas mean it is quite breezy and popular among windsurfers and kite surfers. The beach is joined by the causeway that leads to the iconic Burgh Island which is home to stunning views across the coast.
Make sure you wear your layers, but if it's too cold you can always pop into the cafe for a hot drink to warm things up! Four-legged friends are welcome here from 30 September until 1 May.
