Plymouth, is a hub of activity as ever this August, with a whole host of events set to take place throughout the month for all the family.
Here are our highlights from what promises to be an exciting month ahead:
British Firework Championships
Head to Plymouth Hoe to check out unrivalled views of the British Fireworks Championships which are once again returning to the city. Split across two nights on Wednesday 16 August and Thursday 17 August the competition will see six pyrotechnics teams battle it out for the prestigious trophy Enjoy a fantastic local live music to get you ready for the spectacle, as well as thrilling fairground rides and delicious food and drink.
West End Carnival
This free day out returns to the streets around Plymouth Market in the city centre on Saturday 26 August.
Enjoy live music, watch street performers including magicians, jugglers and contortionists, follow a fun family trail and join in the Carnival parade.

The Box
Plymouth's award-winning museum, art gallery and archive is open throughout August.
Located just a short walk from the city centre, The Box is home to galleries that showcase the city’s incredible collections with thousands of natural history specimens, a full-size replica woolly mammoth, wonderful works of art, amazing archive film and photography, and fascinating documents, maps and plans.
Check out the two summer exhibitions, Reframing Reynolds: A Celebration marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of Sir Joshua Reynolds, who was born in Plymouth and went on to become one of the most influential painters of the 1700s as well as, Rana Begum: Dappled Light is an exhibition exploring light, colour and form, with brightly coloured sculptures and an amazing large-scale ‘cloud burst’ installation.
You can also support locally made products at the monthly Bazaar on Saturday 26, August. The popular event will see many local vendors displaying exceptional and skilfully crafted products, supported by live music and entertainment from local performances.
Live in the Park
Head to Central Park this month for four nights of unforgettable music courtesy of Live in the Park from 16 August to 20 August.
The pop-up festival, fully equipped with bars selling draught beers and ciders, spirits, wines, cocktails and soft drinks, bars selling draught will be playing popular classics across its duration with a celebration of George Michael, the Fleetwood Mac songbook, an ultimate soul and Motown show and finally an ultimate 80s day out!

Mount Edgcumbe Food and Music Festival
Take the short journey to Mount Edgcumbe and visit the vibrant Food and Music Festival for what promises to be a fun filled day for all the family on Sunday, 20 August.
With plenty of live music on offer from the bandstand as well as opportunities to sample handmade treats from local vendors, the festival has something for everyone!
Furthermore an array of masterclasses and children's workshops are available for visitors although they must be pre-booked.
Entry to the popular fest is free, however car parking fees apply.
Plymouth Pride
Celebrate Plymouth Pride in style this August! The hugely popular day takes place on Saturday 5 August. Beginning at 11 am in the city centre, attendees will gather for a pride march to Central Park, for a day of celebration from 12 pm to 8 pm. Enjoy interactive talks and live performances from artists, bands, drag acts and more.
Mount Batten Tower
The historic Mount Batten Tower is open for a limited time only this month. Boasting gorgeous views across Plymouth Sound, The Barbican, Plymouth Hoe and even out to Mount Edgcumbe, the iconic landmark is a must this August.
The tower will be open on Sunday 13 August from 10am until 3pm. No pre-booking is required. See further information regarding the Mount Batten Tower.
The Big Tribute Fest
Three days of terrific tribute acts are set to come to Plymouth's Central Park this month. From The Harry Styles Experience to Little Chix, to Take a Chance on Us and Oasish, the experience promises something for every music lover at the 4,500-capacity tent.
Equipped with dedicated bars, drink stands, and food vendors with cuisines such as Thai, Greek, gourmet burgers, brownies, loaded fries, nachos, pasties, and slush puppies the event is a music lovers' paradise and is certainly not one to be missed.

Open Air Cinema at Tinside Lido
Visit Tinside Lido over select dates in August for the return of the Open Air Cinema, featuring Hollywood Classics, cult favourites, and screen treasures new and old!
Scheduled across six nights this month the unique experience is always a popular event therefore booking in advance is strongly advised.
Doors open at 7.30pm on every night with films scheduled to get underway at 9.15pm.
Royal William Yard
There's a huge programme of events at Royal William Yard this month, with array of free family activities, artist-led workshops, thrilling ways to watch the British Firework Championships, and much more.
