As the Easter school holidays beckon, look no further for boredom-busting inspiration, with plenty to discover and do at Royal William Yard.

Head to the Good Food & Craft market on Sunday 2 April, from 10am to 3pm, for over 70 family-friendly stalls offering everything from brownies and bath bombs, to fudge and falafel wraps. On the green in the open air for the first time this year, the ever-popular market is a great place to peruse a wide range of stalls, while relaxing for a nibble and a natter.
Kids will love Soapbox Science Plymouth, taking place on the green at the market. Scientists from a variety of disciplines – from crabs and plants, to psychology and engineering – will deliver talks in a fun and accessible way, with interactive presentations, props, and questions welcomed. Soapbox Science is a novel public outreach platform for promoting women and non-binary scientists, giving families the opportunity to enjoy, learn from, heckle, question, probe, interact with, and be inspired by brilliant scientists who love doing what they do!
Eat and drink
There’s never a shortage of places to eat, drink and chill out at Royal William Yard, which makes it a safe bet to visit as a family. Whether your kids fancy pasta, pizza, shakes or bakes, there’s plenty of choice and children’s menus available everywhere. Well timed for the Easter hols, The Shack café - nestled right next to Firestone Arch - reopens from 1 April with locally sourced cakes and ice-creams.
Given it's Easter, if you need a chocolate egg, independent chocolatier Domea Favour has you covered - it also has plenty of pocket-money friendly treats like chocolate dipped marshmallows and handmade honeycomb.
Out and about
For a fantastic free activity in the fresh air, get involved in our Geo Trail. It’s an immersive and interactive walking trail around Royal William Yard, created for families and developed with the University of Plymouth, it transports you back 380 million years into Plymouth’s past. Find and feel fossils of ancient sea creatures, in a big adventure for small people! Pick up a trail guide from the Welcome Suite, just on the left as you enter Royal William Yard.
Get out and about in the Spring sunshine. Stroll along the South West Coast Path, or if you’re brave enough, take a paddle in our tidal pool. Daily Plymouth Boat Trips ferry service resumes from Saturday 1 April, which means you can go exploring from our marina. The ferry service lets you hop on and off, so enjoy the experiences and events at Royal William Yard, head to the bustling Barbican over the water in Plymouth, and take a trip to the historic house and acres of stunning Country Park at Mount Edgcumbe in Cornwall.
