Well, ready or not, half term has arrived! If you’re looking for a few fun things to do with all the family this weekend (and beyond), look no further – we’ve got you covered.
Something’s Fishy Trail
Our ingenious friends at Plymouth Sound National Marine Park have launched a free trail just in time for half term week. Pop along to the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) opposite the Mayflower Steps on the Barbican to collect your free trail flyer. Enjoy scouting out lots of different types of marine life before completing the quiz – don’t forget to pop back into the TIC to see if you’ve won a prize!
The Something’s Fishy Trail runs from 11 to 19 February, and the Tourist Information Centre is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
If you fancy trying out more local walking trails there’s a free Plymouth Trails appy ou can download with lots of interesting and exciting places to explore in and around Plymouth.
Explore the Mayflower Museum
Whilst in the area why not make a day of it and pop upstairs in the Tourist Information Centre to explore the recently refurbished Mayflower Museum. The four floors explore four centuries of history and heritage and considers the impact of English colonisation on indigenous communities. There is also an animation (designed for children) which tells the story of the emergence of America.
Get some fresh air
It seems fitting to take a leisurely stroll along our stretch of the South West Coast Path, as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. One of the most scenic routes (with plenty of places to stop and refuel) has to be from the Barbican to the Royal William Yard. Especially if you finish it off with a nice hot chocolate and some churros at Seco Lounge – yum!
See an iconic portrait
This weekend The Box will be unveiling their latest touring portrait: The Armada Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I. Be one of the first to visit Queen Elizabeth I in her year-long residency as part of the ‘100 Journeys’ gallery. Throughout half-term week there will also be drawing activities for the little ones.
Valentine's Treat
If you’re looking for the perfect sweet treat for your valentine, you have to visit Domea Favour in the Royal William Yard. The independent chocolatier makes the most delectable treats from his bijou premises overlooking Mayflower Marina.
