This weekend marks the start of 2022, so why not start the new year right by getting some fresh air...here's our top 5 things to in in Plymouth this week.
Head to the Beach
Blow away those cobwebs and head to Bovisand beach, a sheltered bay of yellow sand with cliffs either side and plenty of walks to enjoy along the coastline.
The beach is situated on the South West Coast Path. Walk north walk to Plymouth (5 miles) or, a little further, walk south east to the River Yealm passing other beautiful bays - Heybrook and Wembury.
Do a Trail
Explore Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City on foot this weekend with trails across the city using the Plymouth Trails App.
The app uses real-time maps to guide you around the city. Each stop contains a mix of text, images and videos. There are image overlay stops where you can experience Now & Then, with archival images merging over the current view.
Trails include, Mayflower Trail, Hoe Trail, Rainbow Connections Trail, Plymouth's Powerful Women Trail and more.

Go on a bike ride
Take the family for a relaxed bike ride through Plymbridge Woods. Cycle through the wooded valley that opens up to Dartmoor or cycle the trails through the woods and have a picnic by the river.
Take a walk
Take a walk around the undisturbed Burrator, surrounded by mixed woodland which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors.
Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips. The circular walk which follows the lanes around the water is ideal for families as it is easy going and flat.
Play at the park
Looking for things to do with the little ones? You can't beat a great park.
With three play space areas, a skate park and lots of walking routes, Central Park is a popular place for locals and visitors alike.
Plymouth is easily accessible by train with a wide range of services running from a variety of locations within England. Although some services may require a change or two.
Travelling from London takes around 3 hours with Great Western Railway, if you're coming from the north, the trip from Manchester can take 5 hours 15 minutes.
Alternatively, the recently renovated Night Riviera Sleeper service runs Monday – Friday and Sunday evenings. Visit gwr.com/sleeper for more details on times and how to book.
We recommend using GWR.com to search for the fastest and best route for your journey, and book in advance for the best price.
