It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas… see amazing light displays, visit the magical rooms at Saltram House and shop for something festive and regional produce. It’s also a great time to treat yourself to a dining experience at Boringdon Hall’s AA 3 Rosette restaurant.
Here’s our top five suggestions for this weekend in Plymouth
Immerse yourself in some awe-inspiring light displays
There’s still time to see the magical light art and immersive digital installations at the Illuminate light festival at Ocean Studios and Market Hall. You will be able to enjoy inspiring talks, workshops, film showings and performances ranging from comedy to music nights during the festival.
Explore magical fairytale Christmas scenes at Saltram House
Discover the delights of Saltram House, the grade I listed George II era mansion house. This year the house will tell the well-loved story of The Nutcracker through some of its grandest rooms and with some of the best parts of their collection.
Amongst the other spectacular rooms, the grandest at Saltram, the Saloon, will be transformed into a magical fairytale forest with decadently decorated trees and magical interventions to make the house feel alive.
Enjoy festival delights at the Plymouth Christmas Show
Book you ticket for the Plymouth Christmas Show. Bring your friends and family to explore the Plymouth Guildhall Christmas Market on 29 November. You'll find everything you need to make this year's holiday season festive; a Santa’s Grotto, Christmas crafts, holiday gifts, seasonal fashions & decor, entertaining tips and a whole lot MORE!
Shop at the Plymouth Good Food Sunday
For the best in regional food and drink visit Home Park this weekend. There will be 40 food and beverage stalls, ranging across hot and cold food and produce, craft beer and spirit offerings, and hand-crafted goods from some of the region’s finest craft and gourmet artisans. Entry is completely free, and free parking is also available on site.

A showcase of inventive British fare, Àclèaf is a unique dining experience where Scott Paton’s seasonally led signature four-course menu takes centre stage. To complete the dining experience, paired wine flights perfectly matched to each individual dish are available.
Àclèaf is an AA 3 Rosette restaurant and features in the MICHELIN Guide 2021.
Plymouth is easily accessible by train with a wide range of services running from a variety of locations within England. Although some services may require a change or two.
Travelling from London takes around 3 hours with Great Western Railway, if you're coming from the north, the trip from Manchester can take 5 hours 15 minutes.
Alternatively, the recently renovated Night Riviera Sleeper service runs Monday – Friday and Sunday evenings. Visit gwr.com/sleeper for more details on times and how to book.
We recommend using GWR.com to search for the fastest and best route for your journey, and book in advance for the best price.
