Summer’s here and what better time to get out on the coast and make the most of being in Plymouth – Britain’s Ocean City. There are some great events and activities going on around Plymouth and the surrounding coasts throughout the summer to help you make the most of our amazing shores. What’s more, many of them are free!

Beach Rangers
The Marine Biological Association’s Beach Ranger events combine marine science and fun for families with young children. The Beach Rangers team offers crab searches, rockpooling, arts & crafts and more, and it’s a great opportunity to find out more about all the fabulously fishy things that can be found right on Plymouth’s doorstep.
Sessions will take place on Wednesdays at Teat’s Hill (PL4 0LX) and Thursdays at Kinterbury Creek (PL5 1HX), 11am – 3pm throughout August. All events are free and no need to book – just turn up.
Summer Beach Outreach
The National Marine Aquarium has organised a fantastic programme of free events throughout the summer, so you can really make the most of being in Britain’s Ocean City.
From rockpool rambles & beach cleans to full day beach bonanzas including scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and more, there are lots of great activities for you to get involved in at different places around Plymouth and the surrounding coast.
Locations include the beautiful beaches at Bovisand, Bigbury and Bantham, Whitsand Bay and Tinside, so head down and join in the fun. You can find the full programme here.
Wembury Marine Centre
Devon Wildlife Trust’s Wembury Marine Centre is the ideal place to learn about the surrounding area and its wildlife through interactive displays and tanks, and they also run a wide range of events that cater for all ages.
There are beachcombing walks and beach cleans, rockpool safaris and mini-surveys, a summer holiday club and even snorkel safaris for beginners or more experienced snorkelers - perfect for those who prefer to get really immersed in the marine environment!

Wild about Plymouth
Plymouth Arts & Heritage Service are running a coastal event that you can enjoy this summer, as part of their ‘Wild about Plymouth’ programme.
Join the team on 9th August at Wembury Marine Centre, where you can see some weird and wonderful natural history specimens, and enjoy some quick and easy fishy things to make.
The event is free but you do need to book.
