About us

The RMA Gig Club, assisted by RM Tamar Gig Club and Yealm Gig Club, is holding its 2023 Winter League Regatta on Saturday 14th January at Mount Batten Watersports Centre. The event is free for spectators and open to all to attend.

The RMA Gig Club is a specialist branch of RMA-The Royal Marines Charity, and its objectives are to promote, teach, and facilitate the sport of Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing. At our regatta Club members will be representing RMA-The Royal Marines Charity and raising funds for the Charity.

Spectators can expect an exciting day of watching rowing teams from Devon and Cornwall compete in traditional 32-foot Cornish Pilot Gigs. We expect over 120 rowers to compete in different races, including Juniors, Ladies, Mens, Vets (40 plus) and Supervets (50 plus) categories. The first race is scheduled to start at 10:00, and the race order is as follows:

1. Mixed Supervets
2. Juniors
3. Ladies B
4. Mens B
5. Ladies A
6. Mens A
7. Ladies Vets
8. Mens Vets

A cash raffle raising funds for RMA Gig Club will be drawn at 15:00. There will also be RMA-The Royal Marines Charity collection pots for kind donations to our excellent Charity.

Refreshments will be available for purchase and facilities provided by Mount Batten Watersports Centre. Parking: spectators are asked to use the free carpark at Mount Batten on the left-hand side of the main road.
