About us
Plymkids Youth Company are excited to be returning to the Plymouth Athenaeum, to present this year's production of Les Misérables! Join us for one of the world's most loved musicals, performed by a talented cast of young local performers.Winner of over 100 international awards and seen by over 65 million people worldwide, Les Misérables is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. Les Misérables features one of the most memorable scores of all time and some of the most memorable characters to ever grace the stage.
In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean's adopted daughter.
Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Misérables packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. This author-approved youth edition has been abridged to a running time of just over two hours, while carefully maintaining the integrity of one the greatest musicals ever written.
Founded in 1997, Plymkids is a musical theatre company based in Plymouth. Their practical and progressive training prepares young people to become a confident all rounder in singing, dance and drama, either as a preparation for further vocational training, or simply for the fun of it! As a result of their training, Plymkids members are frequently cast in professional theatre productions at the Theatre Royal and many members have also had the opportunity to take part in a range of local television and film work.
