The Box set for landmark milestone

Plymouth's award-winning museum, The Box, is on the verge of achieving an exciting milestone.
The museum, located near Plymouth city centre is nearing one million visits since it opened its doors in September 2020.
Since then, the free-to-visit attraction has welcomed more than 940,000 as of the start of 2025 and is well on its way to reaching the all-important figure of 1,000,000 entrants.
The Box is home to galleries that showcase the Plymouth's incredible collections with thousands of natural history specimens, amazing archive film and photography, and fascinating documents, maps and plans among the many things to see there. Among the must-see things at the museum include Mildred the life-size woolly mammoth, and the enormous naval figureheads that hang from the ceiling on entry.
As well as all that the Box hosts a stunning collection of exhibitions that run throughout the year with current exhibitions including Osman Yousefzada - When will we be good enough? a stunning installation that asks questions about power, class and our shared histories, Windrush in the Far South West highlights Plymouth’s little-known links to the migration of people from the Caribbean throughout the mid-1900s, John Lyons: Carnivalesque – featuring vibrant paintings and poetry runs from 8 February until 5 May, as well as Planet Ocean, which works with Plymouth Sound National Marine Park to explore our connection with the sea. Moreover, the venue acts as a great facility for family-friendly activities, with regular parent and child sessions held during both term time and during the school holidays. Equipped with both a store and The Box Kitchen & Bar where you can tuck into a bite to eat or a tasty brew, there is plenty to explore during a visit.
