“We’re so excited to launch our Discovery Tour in partnership with these brilliant local restaurants and Love British Food,” says Edward Baker, CEO of Seafood Plymouth. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for the people of Plymouth – and those visiting – to discover more about the seafood delicacies that surround them down here, species they’ve never tried but we know will be delighted by. In the meantime, we’re already planning for a bigger, better Tour in 2025.”
Jane Saward from Love British Food says: “British Food Fortnight is the national food celebration to showcase the diverse and delicious food we produce in this country with 1,000s of shops, restaurants, pubs, hospitals, schools and communities taking part each year. The Seafood Tour, organised by Seafood Plymouth, is a fantastic idea bringing together local restaurants for the whole community to support the event and local seafood industry.”
The Seafood Plymouth brand has been created by the Plymouth Fishing and Seafood Association to promote local sustainable fisheries. Its mission is simple: to help the Plymouth fishing fleet thrive by enabling local people to access the best local fish. The closure of the Plymouth fish market has meant that costs have increased, but the PFSA is working hard every day to re-open the market. In the meantime, by supporting local restaurants, the people of Plymouth will be doing their bit to help keep the fishermen, merchants and associated family businesses alive – and to build a stronger local community.
