A host of dance shows coming to Theatre Royal Plymouth
2nd July 2024
For dance lovers in the city, Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) has a host of fantastic dance shows from this autumn onwards.
From Matthew Bourne’s unique take on Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, to Quadrophenia, a Mod Ballet inspired by the 1979 cult classic film, there are shows to suit all tastes.
Birmingham Royal Ballet La Fille mal gardée, The Lyric, 10 - 12 October 2024
This autumn brings Sir Frederick Ashton’s La Fille mal gardée, the sunniest and funniest of ballets, back to the stage.
Mixing spectacular classical ballet with slick comedy, a clog-dancing dame and a super-cute pony, as well as live music by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, this shows offers fantastic entertainment for all.
The Four Seasons, The Drum, 10 – 12 October 2024
James Wilton Dance, one of Europe’s most in demand dance companies, presents The Four Seasons.
Using Max Richter’s recomposed version of Vivaldi’s seminal work The Four Seasons, James Wilton Dance has created a work of immense physicality, driving energy and sweeping beauty.
The work features the companies signature blend of capoeira, acrobatics, martial arts and classical dance, alongside stunning stage and costume designs.
This abstract, yet honestly human choreography relates each of the four seasons of the musical composition to the four stages of the universe, creating a kaleidoscopic visual feast for audiences that is not to be missed.
Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake, The Lyric, 11 - 16 November 2024
Matthew Bourne’s audacious, rule-breaking reinvention of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece caused a sensation when it premiered almost 30 years ago.
Thrilling, bold, witty and emotive, this genre-defining event is still best known for replacing the female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble, which shattered convention, turning tradition on its head.
Birmingham Royal Ballet Cinderella, The Lyric, 09 - 12 April 2025
Step into the magical world of Cinderella, where Fairy Godmothers triumph over cruel stepmothers, pumpkins turn into sparkling carriages and a jewelled slipper changes one young woman’s life forever.
This timeless story of love, courage and kindness reminds us all to have faith in our wildest dreams; one day they might just come true.
Quadrophenia, The Lyric, 28 May - 01 June 2025
In 1973, guitar smashing rock genius Pete Townshend wrote Quadrophenia. Recorded by The Who – it quickly became an iconic and multi-million selling album.
Quadrophenia defined a generation and in 1979 inspired the cult classic feature film of the same name. Now it’s back – this time as an explosive dance production – Quadrophenia, a Mod Ballet – with a cast of exceptional dancers.
