Plymouth South West in Bloom launched!
5th July 2023
Yesterday (Wednesday 5 July) saw the launch of Plymouth South West in Bloom!
If you have been out and about around the Barbican and waterfront area in the last couple of weeks, you may have spotted hanging baskets, planters and even a couple of bright blue boats brimming with flowers, and all in preparation for South West in Bloom competition!
This wouldn’t be possible without the support of local dealership Ocean Group BMW and MINI, along with the help and creative talents of Sound Site Services and the volunteers from Hoe Community Forum.
To celebrate the launch at Royal William Yard, final planting took place with the help of school children from St George’s Church of England Primary, and attended by Jon Walton CEO and Kim Downer Business Liaison Manager Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, Alice Duxbury Regional Marketing Manager, Ocean Group.
Judging is due to take place on Monday 24th July.
Plymouth Waterfront Partnership Business Improvement District (PWP BID) has entered into the BID category for the 2023 South West in Bloom initiative, a regional heat of the renowned Britain in Bloom competition.
Visitors will be welcomed with colour and creative floral displays that stretch right across the waterfront from Bretonside to Southside Street, West Hoe and Millbay Park, to Royal William Yard and Mount Batten.
This year’s entry will see upcycled boats, crab pots and buoys being used as planters courtesy of Plymouth Fisheries at Sutton Harbour; and the horticultural talents of the team at Sound Site Services in creating floral themes that reflect the sea using recycled soil.
Plymouth Waterfront Partnership are going for GOLD!
