Have a go at glow in the dark rock pooling
23rd February 2023
Who says grown-ups can't rock pool? Take your mind off the cost-of-living crisis and get back to nature with a free night-time rock pooling session for adults (16+).
The Conscious Sisters CIC will be hosting this thrilling after dark rock pool adventure in association with The Rock Pool Project and as part of The Gathering – a year-long research project re-connecting the people of Plymouth to the sea and Plymouth Sound.
Using UV torches, the session will offer participants the chance to discover glow in the dark anemones and much more. Expert, friendly guides will lead rock poolers around to explore the shore, using special ultraviolet, waterproof torches to reveal the neon wonders of the wildlife at night!
Together, the discoveries will be recorded on special underwater cameras - meaning participants will be helping The Rock Pool Project directly with ongoing biodiversity studies whilst having lots of fun!
Afterwards, rock poolers can warm-up with a hot chocolate at The Secco Lounge free of charge and shake off those winter blues.
A growing number of studies have shown that interaction with the ocean and other ‘blue spaces’ can have a positive effect on mental health – particularly in terms of stress reduction and well-being. Rock pooling is a wonderfully engaging activity which is outdoors, in nature and beside the sea.
This rock pool adventure is brought to you by The Gathering. A project celebrating Plymouth Sound produced by The Conscious Sisters CIC.
