Discover the 'Secrets of the Aquarium' in new BBC series

We're thrilled to announce that the UK's largest aquarium, the National Marine Aquarium (NMA) one of Plymouth's most cherished attractions, is set to captivate audiences on BBC2 with their remarkable documentary series, 'Secrets of the Aquarium.'
This extraordinary show, which has been 18 months in the making, delves into the lives of the dedicated NMA team as they navigate challenges, moments of heartbreak, and ultimate joy while caring for more than 4,000 incredible aquatic creatures right here in Plymouth.
Get ready for an adventure as 'Secrets of the Aquarium' unfolds on TV screens every Tuesday at 8pm, starting from Tuesday 14 November and running through to 19 December 2023.
In the opening episode, you'll watch Marcus, the NMA curator, embark on a daring mission to move a troublesome shark to the to the top of the deepest tank in the UK. Andrew, their biologist diver, takes on the task of building a new hideaway for a reclusive lobster, and Friday the turtle has an encounter with a shark.

About Secrets of The Aquarium
Secrets of The Aquarium will take viewers on an extraordinary journey behind the scenes of the National Marine Aquarium, the largest Aquarium in the UK, offering a unique glimpse into the captivating world of marine life. With breath-taking cinematography and exclusive access to the inner workings of the NMA, the series will showcase the incredible diversity of the marine species who make the National Marine Aquarium their home. The 6-part documentary series is narrated by Joanna Scanlan (Thick of It, Getting On, Notes on a Scandal, In the Loop) and will feature fascinating stories of looking after animals and our conservation efforts. These stories include creating a cozy cave for Larry the lobster, rehoming a turtle from the Maldives, the unforeseen problems of seagrass restoration, connecting people in local care homes with the sea, and a plenty of content about our cheeky green turtle, Friday. These stories highlight the profound impact of the National Marine Aquarium and the Ocean Conservation Trust, showcasing our commitment to restoring and protecting the Ocean.
