Plymouth Tourist Information Centre - Finalists at the 22/23 Devon Tourism Awards
30th January 2023
The award winning team at Plymouth Tourist Information Centre, situated at the heart of Barbican, have made it through to the finals of this year’s Devon Tourism Awards.
The team of five, who are finalists in the ‘Visitor Information Service of the Year’ category, have had an exceptionally challenging few years, so being recognised for their ‘exceptional standard of service’ and ongoing support and dedication to the industry is a welcome accolade. Clare Phillips, Visitor Services Manager at the Plymouth Tourism Information Centre comments, ‘after an extraordinary couple of years it’s a privilege to again be amongst the finalists for this year’s Devon Tourism Awards’.
The Awards
The annual competition is in its thirteenth year and will be hosted on 2 February at Home Park. Within the sixty finalists are a number of other Plymouth wide businesses who have earned their place in finals. Ocean View at The Dome have been selected for two awards, ‘New Tourism Business’ and Restaurant of the Year. Whilst, The Cottages at Blackadon Farm in Ivybridge are finalists in, no fewer than, four categories - ‘Ethical, Responsible & Sustainable Tourism Award’, ‘Resilience and Innovation Award’, ‘Self Catering Accommodation of the Year’, and ‘Dog Friendly Business of the Year’ - we can’t wait to see how they get on!
Many of the businesses who have entered the award will be entered into the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in March 2023 and possibly invited to represent Devon in the national Visit England Awards.
The Tourist Information Centre and Mayflower Museum
The Tourist Information Centre and Mayflower Museum has been at the heart of the historic Barbican in Plymouth for twenty-six years and is situated opposite the Mayflower steps. The knowledgeable team are on hand six days-a-week from October to March and then seven days-a-week for the rest of the year to provide information of what’s on locally, the best attractions to visit as well as cost effective trips and free activities.
Amanda Lumley, Chief Executive at Destination Plymouth says: “It is fantastic to see some our Plymouth businesses in the nominations for the Devon Awards this year. We have some brilliant operators who give a great experience and exceptional quality to our visitors and locals alike. It is particularly pleasing to see that work across the city over the past 12 months to encourage sustainability and environmentally friendly practices is paying off with a number of our businesses being nominated for awards in this category. We are very excited to see who the winners will be on the night and wish them all every success!’
