Huge names added to 1 Big Summer weekend in Plymouth
18th June 2021
The Libertines have just been announced as the latest headliner for the 1 Big Summer Event in Plymouth this August.
The 1 Big Summer organisers said: "We literally cannot find the words to express how much of a big deal this is for Plymouth, and how excited we are to bring the Libertines to Plymouth Hoe. So instead, we thought we would share what others have said about the band:
“The Greatest Rock N Roll Story Of Our Generation” NME
“They were the band that put raw, unpolished rebellion back into British rock'n'roll and swept up an entire generation in their wake.” The Guardian
“The Libertines had something of the kitchen sink about them, something of Blake, something of the Clash, something of the Smiths, something of Dickens, something of the fin de siècle dandy… it is an intoxicating combination.” The Independent
"With international travel still ominous, we knew we had to look at UK artists, and with the demand for a ‘band’ so high within the city, we tried our luck with arguably one of the biggest bands of the last 20 years! And we got them!!"
The Libertines are no strangers to the big stage, having headlined Leeds Festival, Reading Festival, BST, Y Not?, main stage Glastonbury, and pretty much every major event there is. Their name has become legendary in UK’s Live Music hall of fame.
Pete Doherty, one of the most iconic frontmen of the modern era will lead the band as they headline the Saturday.
And that’s not all – joining them, one of the biggest names in the UK right now – KSI, will also take to the stage on Saturday.
KSI has been crowned the biggest influencer in the UK with a social media reach of over 40 million people, and is one of YouTube's biggest stars with over 30 million subscribers. Not only this, but KSI is a professional boxer, and a chart topping music artist with ten top 40, and five top 5 singles! He also possesses the third most-followed music channel in the UK behind only Ed Sheeran and One Direction!
KSI is again no stranger to the big stage, and will feature at Reading and Leeds festival this year. We expect him to perform all of his biggest hits, featuring top artists such as Craig David, Anne-Marie, YungBlud and more, and we’ve been told there may be a few surprises in store.
The Libertines and KSI join Deadmau5 and Raye on the Saturday, alongside support DJs Martin 2 Smoove, Andy Purnell and Plymouth’s own DJ Jonezy.
Other acts across the weekend include Chase & Status, Frank Turner, MTV favourite DJ R3WIRE, the Ibiza Orchestra, and there’s still more to come.
1 Big Summer, a 3-day music event in Plymouth, will take place on Plymouth Hoe on the August bank holiday weekend: 27, 28, and 29 August 2021.
More than 65% of tickets have already been sold across the 3 days. After the announcements by Government this week, and the confirmed date of July 19 for reopening, organisers expect demand to stay high. To manage that demand, tickets will remain limited to 4 per person per day.
On the reopening, the organisers went on to say: "We have fewer doubts now than we have at any time previously. The event will go ahead as planned!"

Friday 27 August will see Ibiza Classics 2021, featuring a full live 26-piece orchestra and a soundtrack that will transport listeners through three decades of iconic white isle classics. The orchestra night will feature a huge headline set from Chase and Status, and several support acts including the brilliant DJ R3WIRE, with more direct from the shores of Ibiza, to be announced in the coming weeks.
On Saturday 28 August, the ‘1 Big Summer’ day festival and main event follows suit with one of the biggest events ever held on the Hoe. Featuring an array of top UK chart topping acts and entertainment throughout the day, it’s ‘the party we’ve all been waiting for’, As previously announced, the event will feature a huge closing set from none other than Global superstar and icon, Deadmau5, as well as a live performance from UK chart topper, Raye. With the Libertines and KSI just been added!
Sunday 29 August is one for the whole family. ‘The Great British Sausage and Cider Festival’ will offer an array of craft cider, sausage flavours, street food and entertainment, including stage games, and competitions throughout the day. Not only that, there will also be some remarkable special guests, including Frank Turner. This is set to be the perfect bank holiday Sunday.
