Huge names announced for Plymouth's 1 Big Summer music festival
16th December 2021
The 1 Big Summer Festival has announced some huge names for next summer's event, including Years & Years, The Libertines, Supergrass and Basement Jaxx.
The event takes place on the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend from Thursday 2 to Saturday 4 June 2022 and will see one of the biggest line ups ever assembled descend on to Plymouth Hoe for three jam packed days!
Thursday 2 June will be the perfect start to the Bank Holiday weekend and is one for the dance music lovers, featuring a full live 30-piece orchestra and a soundtrack that will transport listeners through three decades of iconic White Isle classics.
The orchestra night will feature special guests Basement Jaxx, whose catalogue includes the legendary singles 'Red Alert', 'Rendez-Vu', 'Jump n Shout', 'Do Your Thing', 'Bingo Bango', 'Romeo', “Where’s Your Head At' and 'Good Luck', as well as a series of albums including the ground-breaking, million-selling debut 'Remedy', and the double platinum UK number one collection, 'The Singles', earning two BRIT awards and a GRAMMY along the way.
Basement Jaxx will be joined by many support acts, including MTV and Plymouth favourite DJ R3WIRE. R3WIRE has since joined James Hype to build the Stereohype brand which has blown up over the past 2 years, much like R3WIRE, with millions tuning in for his weekly live streams. When asked about coming back to Plymouth, R3WIRE said: "After a strange couple of years, I’ve really enjoyed getting back to live events. But of all the shows, there’s not a stage I am more looking forward to playing than Plymouth. The crowd have always been amazing, and there’s no place quite like Plymouth Hoe."
On Friday 3 June, the ‘1 Big Summer’ day festival and main event follows with one of the biggest events ever held on the Hoe. The Friday will feature one of the biggest artists in the world right now: Years & Years.
As Years & Years, Olly Alexander has become one of the world’s most trail blazing modern pop stars. Across two hugely successful albums to date, the singer, actor, and cultural vanguard has earned 5 BRIT Award nominations, sold-out numerous global tours, and played triumphant sold out shows at London’s O2 and Wembley Arena.
Years & Years will be joined by an array of UK chart topping acts and entertainment throughout the day, including L Devine and Beka.
This day was previously sold out but due to a small number of refunds, there is now limited availability - but this will be on a first come first served basis.
Saturday 4 June will see two of the biggest bands - The Libertines and Supergrass - come together for ultimate finale of the 1 Big Summer weekend! .
The Libertines are no strangers to the big stage. Having headlined Leeds Festival, Reading Festival, BST, Y Not?, main stage Glastonbury, and pretty much every major event there is, their name has become legendary.
Pete Doherty, one of the most iconic frontmen of the modern era will lead the band as they headline the Saturday. The organisers commented: "With so many festivals popping up, the demand for ‘bands’ is high, we tried our luck with arguably two of the biggest bands of the last 20 years! And we got them
both!!"
The Libertines will be joined on the Saturday by the iconic and brilliant Supergrass. A BRIT Award, an Ivor Novello, NME Awards, a Q award, a Silver Clef, A Muso, and a string of nominations for everything including a Mercury prize – this band has literally done and won everything!
Supergrass reunited back in 2019 to perform at Glastonbury’s annual Pilton Party, before announcing their own string of dates, including a pair of massive London shows at Alexandra Palace.
Saturday is going to be a day for the whole family. ‘The Great British Sausage and Cider Festival’ will offer an unprecedented array of craft cider, sausage flavours, street food and entertainment, including stage games, and competitions throughout the day.
Councillor Mark Deacon, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Culture, Leisure and Sport at Plymouth City Council said: “We’re delighted that the organisers have chosen to bring 1 Big Summer to Plymouth Hoe. It’s incredibly important to us to bring more live music to the city, so we’re pleased to be able to support this amazing weekend of entertainment which offers something for everyone to enjoy.”
With demand across all three days expected to be very high, tickets will be limited to four per person.
Tickets will be on sale at 8am Monday 20 December 2022 - just in time for last-minute Christmas presents! Day tickets for 1 Big Summer will start at just £35. Weekend tickets will start from just £79.
People who have tickets from last year will receive these in the next 14 days.
