Roll up, roll up! Plymouth Summer Circus is coming to town
2nd July 2019
Make your way to Plymouth city centre on Saturday 6 July to enjoy all the fun of the circus, for free.
The new Plymouth Summer Circus event will see a stage and an aerial rig in the Piazza, and a packed programme of entertainment will run from 11am to 3pm. Performers including trapeze artists, jugglers, sword swallowers, fire breathers, and unicyclists will entertain the crowds.
Throughout the day, Higher Beings will be offering circus skills workshops so you can give it a go for yourself. The workshops will give visitors the chance to test themselves on a free-standing tightrope and a freestanding slackline or play with a variety of circus equipment.
Plymouth Summer Circus marks the start of Plymouth Summer of Fun, which will see a range of family friendly events take place in the city centre every weekend during the summer holidays.
Steve Hughes, Chief Executive of Plymouth City Centre Company which organises the event, said: “It’s really important for us to showcase our city centre and remind people what a great range of businesses we have here. Plymouth Summer of Fun is designed to attract more visitors and support our High Street. We hope it will become a great annual event.”
Plymouth Summer of Fun runs until 31 August, when it concludes with the grand finale of the West End Carnival and 60th Anniversary of Plymouth Market.
Activities taking place throughout the summer include free ping pong sessions, street entertainers and dance performances.
The Summer of Fun also encompasses bigger events, like Plymouth Pride on Saturday 10 August and the first Plymouth Bike Day on Saturday 27 July. Building on Plymouth Motorcycle Club’s famous Bike Nights which are held on the Hoe, this will be their first event in the city centre, with a display of old classic motorcycles, scooters and modern motorcycles on the Piazza.
