Located in one of the most beautiful locations imaginable, Plymouth is sandwiched between the incredible South West coastline and the wild beauty of Dartmoor National Park. There’s something for every traveller to experience in this historic city, however long you have to stay around.
If you’ve not got long to spend in our great little city by the sea, make sure to take time for some of our favourite city centre spots. The city centre with its post-war building architecture is a great place to shop, eat and a place that hosts a variety of events throughout the year.

Plymouth’s historic Barbican & Sutton Harbour is where you’ll find the highest concentration of cobbled streets in England, lined with cosy cafes, buzzing pubs and stunning shops and galleries. Make sure you enjoy a seaside treat of fish and chips or ice cream by the sea.
Plymouth's Royal William Yard, a former Royal Navy victualling yard, offers a stunning collection of Grade II listed buildings and has been transformed into one of Plymouth’s coolest spots, with a real contemporary vibe. Soak up the vibrant café culture, tuck into lunch at one of the great restaurants or take a stroll by the sea, climbing the staircase that links the Yard to the South West Coast Path.
The surrounding areas of Plymouth provide a real country feel and is perfect for experiencing some outdoor fun. Take a venture into Cornwall for a more rural experience with many quaint villages and beautiful beaches. Easily accessed by road or train over the infamous Royal Albert Bridge or you can catch a ferry from The Barbican landing stage to a few of Cornwall's small villages and Mount Edgcumbe Country Park.
A short drive from Plymouth, is the rest of South Devon. Featuring beautiful coastlines and stunning countryside as well as historic market towns, a wonderful scattering of villages and hamlets and of course the stunning Dartmoor National Park.
The Tamar Valley is a beautiful landscape, shaped by its three rivers the Tamar, Tavy and Lynher. Much of the area is designated one of Outstanding Natural Beauty that offers a diverse and exciting landscape to visitors of all ages. The Tamar Valley can be found due north of the Plymouth, a short car or train ride from the city centre.
