With its sheltered anchorage within Plymouth Sound and a scenic, short tender trip, the Barbican Landing Stage offers an inviting atmosphere for passengers and crew alike. Safety and accessibility are top priorities, with a purpose-built tender pontoon equipped with disabled access and the capacity for multiple vessels.
Just a quick tender ride away, explore the Barbican’s cobbled streets, discover over 200 Listed Buildings, and indulge in local boutiques, galleries, and dining experiences. You’ll find unique attractions such as the renowned Plymouth Gin Distillery and the stunning views from the historic Plymouth Hoe, home to Smeaton’s Tower.
Our Millbay Docks and Cruise Terminal is managed by Associated British Ports (ABP) and offers first-class facilities for larger ships. With designated berths and a passenger terminal designed to cater to both transit and turnaround calls, guests can enjoy ample amenities, including check-in desks, a comfortable lounge, and dining options.

Barbican Landing Stage, Tender Platform (Cattewater Harbour Commissioners)
As part of the experience provided to our cruise guests in Plymouth, we have a dedicated award winning team of Cruise Ambassadors who will be on hand to welcome passengers and crew ashore with a friendly smile, provide advice and support and finally bid our cruise visitors a fond farewell. Located in Plymouth’s historic Barbican Harbour, the landing stage boasts all of the following to make your visit special:
• Sheltered anchorage within Plymouth Sound. Inside Plymouth Breakwater.
• Short, sheltered and scenic 8-minute tender trip to the Barbican Landing Stage.
• Guests land on a safe, purpose built cruise ship tender pontoon with disabled access.
• Three tenders (based on 12 metre vessels) can be accommodated alongside at any one time.
• Landing stage available at all states of tide.
• Parking for up to 14 coaches, 100 metres away from tender pontoon.
• Two large car parks within very close proximity of tender pontoon.
• Water taxi and harbour cruise services by prior arrangement.
• Local passenger boat operators can provide tender support when required.
• Guests will alight directly into the historic centre of Plymouth, the Barbican. The Barbican is a vibrant place of cobbled streets, narrow lanes and more than 200 Listed Buildings, many of them Tudor and Jacobean. The Plymouth Barbican Waterfront is home to the largest concentration of cobbled streets in Britain, many of which can be spotted on New Street, the oldest street in Plymouth. There is a wide range of boutique shops, galleries, restaurants, pubs, and cafés set amidst picturesque scenery.
• Only a 5–10-minute walk to Plymouth Hoe, Smeaton’s Tower and Plymouth City Centre.
• Southside Street, the main Barbican street, is home to the world-famous Plymouth Gin Distillery, the building dates back to the early 1400s and was a former monastery inhabited by Black Friar Monks.
• The harbour and Barbican Landing Stage is perfectly placed to make the most of all Plymouth has to offer, from unparalleled historic landmarks to some of the city’s largest and liveliest family attractions. The National Marine Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the UK with over 40 sharks, is at the entrance to the harbour.
• From the tender drop off location, guests will be able to see the famous Mayflower Steps from which The Mayflower Pilgrims are believed to have left England aboard the Mayflower for America in 1620. Discover Plymouth’s maritime heritage with the one-mile Sutton Harbour Heritage Trail, or see the sights from two wheels and take advantage of the two National Cycle Routes right on the harbour’s doorstep.
Millbay Docks, Cruise Terminal and Tender Facilities (Associated British Ports)
Plymouth has a dedicated passenger terminal located within Millbay Docks, owned and operated by Associated British Ports (ABP). Two alongside berthing options:
• West Wharf: LOA < 215m, 8.5m draft.
• Trinity Pier: LOA < 120m, 4.5m draft. King Point tender point:
• Multiple berths, 20min transfer time.
• Up to 3 tender berths available.
• Coach and taxi parking.
• Covered area for cruise security.
• Designated pedestrian walkways.
• Café and restaurant on-site. • Step-free access.
• Covered area for cruise security.
These facilities are ideally suited for both transit and turnaround calls. The passenger terminal has the following facilities:
• Check-in desks x5.
• Passenger lounge with generous seating.
• Fully licensed Café Bar.
• Tourist Information stand.
• One Passenger / Crew / Visitor X-ray screening.
• ISPS compliant.
• Fully serviced toilets with baby change area.
• Payphones.
• Wheelchair accessible.

• Adjacent short-stay car parking, including disabled parking bays.
• Long-stay car parking. Upgrades for the 2025 season:
