Looking for some fun activities to enjoy in Plymouth with your family during the February half-term break? You’re in luck, because there's lots to offer for visitors of all ages and interests.

Here are some of our top picks for things to do in Plymouth this half-term.

                 

Indoor attractions 

The Box

Head to Plymouth's award-winning museum, The Box, this half term. Admire the fascinating artefacts and exhibits that tell the stunning story of Plymouth's past at the free-to-enter museum. Current exhibitions at the museum include Planet Ocean which explores our connection to the ocean, John Lyons: Carnivalesque,  Osman Yousefzada: When will we be good enough? and Windrush in the South West while family-friendly workshops run throughout the holidays include Family-Fun: Wings and Wonderful Things where you can build your own bird puppets and masks.

                  

Continue Arcades

Get your game on at Continue Arcades in Plymouth city centre this half term. Enjoy unlimited play across more than 40 arcade machines, retro consoles and mulitplayer stations, taking you on a journey through gaming history. Simply pay on entry and enjoy endless gaming fun. 

                    

Mayflower Museum

Explore the history of the famous Mayflower ship at the Mayflower Museum on The Barbican. Take a journey through the years as you make your way across three floors experiencing history, encounters, exploration, impacts, plus commemoration and legacies of the ship and its sailors.

                      

Theatre Royal Plymouth

Take in a show at the Theatre Royal Plymouth this half-term. There's plenty of shows to look forward to throughout the half term including Lynn Faces, while there are concerts like Radio Gaga, TaylorMania and FastLove to look forward to during the holiday.

                         

Plymouth Pavilions

Experience a night of magical music at Plymouth Pavilions where Rock Orchestra by Candlelight comes to the city on Tuesday 18 February. The Rock Orchestra is a rotating collective of classical musicians, featuring some of the greatest instrumentalists and vocalists in the world.

     

Cineworld Plymouth

Experience the latest family-friendly films at Cineworld Plymouth during the half term holidays. The state-of-the-art cinema is impossible to miss at Drake Circus, The Barcode and is home to 12 screens which include IMAX and 4DX technolcogy, allowing you to watch in the highest quality. There's plenty of films on show every day, meaning it's a great family day out should you visit on a rainy day. 

    

Get outdoors

The Barbican 

Explore one of Plymouth's most historic areas at The Barbican. The cobbled streets hold many stories of Plymouth's fascinating past and are lined with restaurants, cafes and iconic attractions to explore on your visit.

                 

Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park

Take a trip across the water to South East Cornwall and explore the fascinating gardens of Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park . Make your way up the hill to the iconic house built in 1500 and admire the stunning views back across to Plymouth. The gardens are a haven of history and provide a great day out for all of the family.

                  

Saltram House 

Get outdoors this holiday season at the serene landscapes of Saltram House. A tranquil garden plus historic parkland are waiting to be explored at the picturesque National Trust venue. There's also plenty of family-friendly workshops to look forward to during the half term, including the opportunity to create your very own handprint hedgehog in one of the many workshops throughout the week. 

Explore the 500 acres of parkland which is home to farmland, beaches, different habitats an estuary and so much more within the stunning environment. 

            

Plymouth Trails

Explore Plymouth during half term with the Plymouth Trails app. Simply download the application to your phone and embark on a number of trails that give you an in-depth tour of the city. 

         

Ocean Squad with the Ocean Conservation Trust

Join up with the Ocean Conservation Trust for a half term of fun experiences, inspirational learning and building new friendships with other likeminded young people. Providing opportunities for children and teens age 5-15 years, with an in-depth experience, exposing and connecting them to their local marine environment. Participants will take part in a range of seasonal activities. From behind the scenes tours of the National Marine Aquarium, fun games and workshops, to dissections and preparing food for Aquarium animals. As well as, snorkelling, virtual reality and rockpooling. 

               

Eating out 

There are plenty of family-friendly places to eat out in Plymouth during the holidays. Seafood lovers will can enjoy the freshly-caught delights at The Boathouse. Situated near the Mayflower Steps on The Barbican, the restaurant is packed with vibrant flavours that celebrate the best local seafood catches from around the region. Great food can always be found at The News Cafe at the Royal William Yard, the venue which overlooks the water has a vast menu with plenty of options for hungry mouths during the holiday. In Plymouth city centre Las Iguanas is always a popular destination among families. Admire animals 

National Marine Aquarium

Rain or shine there is plenty to explore and entertain at the National Marine Aquarium this half term. Home to over 200,000 underwater species, the Aquarium is hosting events throughout the half-term including Quiet at The Aquarium and Sleeping with the Sharks among the experiences to enjoy.

                     

Dartmoor Zoo

Treat the family to a trip to Dartmoor Zoo this half term. The zoo boasts a wonderful 33 acres of woodland, celebrating a wide range of exotic and native animals. Amomg these include the biggest variety of big cats in the South West of England such as the new addition to the zoo.  Plus, if you visit on Valentine's Day at the start of half term,  you get two entries for the price of one.

Pennywell Farm 

Enjoy a fun-filled experience packed full of animals, hands-on activities, rides, play-time, shows and displays at Pennywell Farm near Plymouth this half term. The cute farm hosts a wide variety of activities throughout the day and has something to delight everyone from super cute piglets to tractor racing!
