As Britain’s Ocean City, you’d expect Plymouth to be a great place in indulge in seafood and we can guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Home to the country’s second largest fish market, restaurants across the city make the most of the fresh, seasonal produce available. Here are six fintastic places that all fish fans should try!

 

Kuku

Fans of Japanese food need to pay a visit to KUKU sushi bar. This hidden gem uses local, seasonal ingredients to create delicious – and beautiful – dishes. Watch the chefs at work and choose from an amazing range of sushi, salads and soups.

 

Rockfish

Mitch Tonks’ Plymouth restaurant has beautiful harbour views and serves up delicious fresh fish dishes, from traditional fish and chips to fritto misto, prawn tacos and Jersey Rock oysters. They also offer a local fish menu, which changes daily depending on the catch of the day.

Recently, Rockfish Plymouth was named as one of The Times’ 100 Best Places to Eat in the UK, compiled by food critics Giles Coren and Marina O'Loughlin, so definitely pay it a visit!

 

Supha’s Street Food Emporium

Supha’s brings the flavours of Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Malaysia to Plymouth – and they have a great range of seafood dishes on offer! Situated just a couple of minutes from the city’s fish market, they serve up the freshest fish and you can even choose the fish you’d like in your dish from their counter.

 

The Boathouse Café

Renovated from an old fisherman’s store, The Boathouse Café is right on the waterfront. Focused on sustainable sourcing, they catch and serve their own fish – you’ll find the catch of the day on the specials board.

If you’re looking for more of a hands-on experience, then head out on one of Plymouth Boat Trips fishing trips and book in for ‘Cook Your Catch’. The chefs will take your own catch and cook it perfectly for you.

 

The Cracking Crab Company

Tucked under the wharves, just along from The Boathouse Café, you’ll find this delightful spot. You won’t be surprised to learn they specialise in crab – you can buy fresh to take away with you or treat yourself to a crab sandwich! Other seafood treats on offer include pots of cockles and lobster, a real treat for seafood fans.  

 

The Chancel Wine Bar & Bistro

A family run restaurant which prides itself on shopping local, The Chancel has a great range of fish dishes on their menu and all of the fish served is sustainably sourced, fresh and in season. And, as the name suggests, they’re also home to a brilliant selection of wines!
