About us
The Drake Hotel is centrally located in the heart of Plymouth, just a two-minute walk from the Hoe Promenade, which overlooks the historic Plymouth Sound of Sir Francis Drake – one of the largest natural harbours in the world.
Originally built as the private residence of a high-ranking Naval officer around the 1820s-1830s, the communal areas of the building retain many of the original architectural features from this period. Paying homage to its extensive history, the hotel preserves many of its original features, including the magnificent ornate ceiling in the dining room.
The Drake Hotel offers free parking for guests in the front or back; freshly cooked breakfast (vegetarian and vegan options available), an on-site bar & lounge serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Rooms
The Drake Hotel offers 23 rooms spread over four floors, accessed by traditional staircases. Although there are no lifts in the hotel, the staff are happy to assist guests with any luggage if required. All rooms have been refurbished to a very high standard, featuring quality beds for guaranteed comfort, contemporary furniture, and en-suite facilities. The hotel truly stands by the saying, “Hospitality is simply an opportunity to show love and care.”
Every guest is treated with the love and care that the staff would hope to receive themselves, whether staying for one night on a business trip or a week-long holiday for leisure during the summer.
Location
The Drake Hotel Plymouth is central to the heart of the city, close to all the city’s restaurants, nightlife, and cultural attractions such as the Barbican and the iconic Mayflower Steps. Devon is right on the doorstep, and Dartmoor National Park, South Hams, and Cornwall are only a short drive away. The Drake Hotel is ideally located for business trips, holidays, and relaxing breaks.
Another must-visit spot in Plymouth is the Royal William Yard, located a short distance from the hotel. This unique site boasts the largest collection of Grade I listed military buildings in Europe. These handsome stone buildings by the sea have been re-imagined as upmarket restaurants, bars, and art galleries. The yard also hosts regular public events, including outdoor cinema and theatre shows.
