Live brass band concerts this summer on Plymouth's historic harboursideSoundhouse Brass, Plymouth's award-winning brass band, will be playing live concerts on the city's historic waterfront in Sutton Harbour this summer.
Every Thursday evening in August, Soundhouse Brass will be performing on the harbourside in the heart of Plymouth, Britain's Ocean City, for visitors and locals alike to enjoy.
The band will play two 45 minute sets from 7.30pm until 9.15pm, with a 15 minute interval, performing a varied programme including marches and popular musical arrangements.
Bob Yates, Chairman of Soundhouse Brass, said: "We are extremely excited to be performing on Quay Square alongside Plymouth's famous waterfront. Sutton Harbour provides a superb location and a stunning backdrop for live performances and we hope to add to the wonderful atmosphere.
"This is a great opportunity for Soundhouse Brass to showcase the skills and talent of our musicians and ultimately entertain tourists, visitors and our local community. We are looking forward to performing in a central location and where could be better than by the water and near the Barbican – Sutton Harbour is the perfect place."
Based in Plymouth, Britain's Ocean City, Soundhouse Brass is of First Section National Standard and was formed over 90 years ago. Originally called the Plymouth City Mission Band, the ensemble has had numerous name changes but became Soundhouse Brass in 2002, following a move to a purpose-built music facility in The Soundhouse at Tor Bridge High Community College in Estover.
Bob added: "Soundhouse Brass currently has more than 70 members ranging in age from 7-79 years in our senior band and youth academy. We are a contesting band and regularly compete across the South West. Our senior band has recently been promoted to the First Section and our Training Band has swept the board in local competitions during recent years. We are also proud that members of our youth academy are now integrated members of the senior band – the band is really on the up."
Soundhouse Brass is a registered charity and is developing a successful youth academy, which sets out to encourage and nurture the next generation of brass players and their enjoyment of music and brass banding.
The Sutton Harbour summer performances will be weather dependant, and free for all visitors to enjoy, with a collection taken for band development funds.
Philip Beinhaker, Executive Chairman of Sutton Harbour Group, said: "We are delighted to welcome Soundhouse Brass to Sutton Harbour for a series of concerts to be held throughout August.
"Footfall increases in the evenings as many people come to Plymouth's harbour for a walk, drink or evening meal and we are confident this impressive ensemble will add to the harmony and energy of the harbour, with live music performances making the visitor experience in Sutton Harbour even more enjoyable. We plan to stage events such as this more regularly on Plymouth's historic waterfront, especially in the run-up to the Mayflower 400 celebrations when the harbour will be particularly busy with visitors."
