Plymouth Waterfront Partnership blossoms with Silver-Gilt success at Britain in Bloom regionals
17th October 2024
Plymouth's marvellous waterfront has been recognised for its extensive lengths to add to the local scenery through horticulture.
Plymouth Waterfront Partnership (PWP) is celebrating a blooming achievement after securing a prestigious Silver-Gilt award at the South West in Bloom initiative, a regional heat of the renowned Britain in Bloom competition. The prestigious competition, which is run by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), recognises communities across the UK for their efforts to improve their local environment through horticulture. This year, and for the second year running, PWP’s entry to Britain in Bloom was sponsored by Ocean Group, and new for 2024 sponsor Plymouth Garden Centre.
Kim Downer, Business Liaison Manager, Plymouth Waterfront Partnership:“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this Silver-Gilt award. It’s a wonderful recognition of our commitment to creating a more vibrant and sustainable waterfront. Thank you to everyone who has worked tirelessly to bring our vision to life - we are delighted to see it rewarded, and to be recognised as a ‘BID to watch’ as noted by BIB’s head judge at the recent awards ceremony. Huge thanks to the Plymouth Garden Centre for all of their support, it was fantastic to see what they did with our displays across so many locations in the waterfront.”
Alice Duxbury, Group Marketing Manager, Ocean Group: “Ocean Group are proud to have supported Plymouth Waterfront Partnership once again. It’s fantastic to see the hard work of the local community recognized with this Silver-Gilt award. Ocean represents BMW and MINI in Devon and Cornwall and we believe in the importance of sustainable initiatives that enhance and beautify our surroundings, and we’re delighted to be part of this ongoing effort to make Plymouth’s waterfront a more vibrant and welcoming place for everyone.”
Fiona Newton, Managing Director, Plymouth Garden Centre:“We are delighted to have helped Plymouth Waterfront Partnership receive this Silver-Gilt award. It was a great honour to work with the teams to create the themed displays and choose many fabulous plants from local growers that made these boats come to life. Plymouth Garden Centre has supported local gardeners and the community for over 60 years and is pleased to support projects and competitions like this. We have already started thinking about how to ‘push the boat out’ in the 2025 competition. We look forward to encouraging more people to get involved in creating wonderful displays within our community for all to enjoy.”
As PWP continues to bloom and flourish, CEO, Jon Walton, and Kim, are committed to maintaining its high standards and striving for even greater success in future competitions. With the support of the local business community and the dedication of the team of volunteers from the Hoe Community Forum, with support from Plymouth City Council’s ground maintenance team and Sound Site Services, the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership is ‘going for gold’ in 2025.
