Plymouth marinas promote berthing in Britain's Ocean City at major UK boating show
18th September 2018
Two leading Plymouth marinas are showcasing the many benefits of berthing your boat in Britain’s Ocean City at the 50th annual TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show this week.
The hugely popular event, widely regarded as Britain’s biggest and best-loved boating festival, celebrates its half-century this year with a 10-day boating spectacular featuring exhibitors, displays, family-friendly attractions and hundreds of boats, brands and suppliers attending.
The Marina at Sutton Harbour, based in the historic heart of Plymouth alongside the famous Barbican Quarter, is joined by its sister marina, King Point Marina – based in the newly regenerated Coastal Quarter of Millbay – to exhibit at the TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show, which runs until 6pm on Sunday 23rd September.
Marina staff are manning a stand in the Which Marina section run by the Yacht Harbour Association, offering visitors the chance to find out more about berthing their boats in Plymouth, and promoting Plymouth alongside destinations such as Porto Montenegro and La Rochelle.
Mark Brimacombe, Manager of The Marina at Sutton Harbour and King Point Marina, said: “TheYachtMarket.Com Southampton Boat Show is one of the country’s premier boating events so it’s important for us to have this presence in order to promote Plymouth as an exciting destination with excellent cruising and first class boating facilities.
“It’s amazing to be part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of this incredibly popular event, and we’re delighted to have a stand in the Which Marina section surrounded by fellow 5 Gold Anchor marinas, which elevates the pride we have in The Marina at Sutton Harbour and King Point Marina.
“We’ve been talking to lots of new and existing berth holders visiting the show, and showing off the amazing attributes of Plymouth, as well as the sailing waters of the South West which are in such easy reach of both marinas.”
TheYachtMarket.Com Southampton Boat Show (September 14 – 23) kicked off its 50th event in style last Friday, with sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, who was the first person to complete a single handed, non-stop circumnavigation of the globe, arriving to cut the ribbon and open the 10-day show.
A host of further celebrities are in attendance during the festival, which takes place at Mayflower Park and Town Quay in Southampton all this week. Thousands of visitors are expected and boats on show – including vessels displayed by Plymouth’s Princess Yachts – range from yachts and dinghies to luxurious powerboats.
There are also stands from more than 600 exhibitors promoting equipment, products and marinas.
