Walk the gardens of history
Mount Edgcumbe House is the former home of the Earls of Mount Edgcumbe. Surrounded by formal gardens and set in a Grade I listed landscape, the country park covers 865 acres of the Rame Peninsula in South East Cornwall.Built nearly 100 years before the Mayflower set sail in 1620, the Tudor style mansion stands at the top of an equally ancient double avenue of trees. In 1515 King Henry VIII issued a license to embark the lands and over 500 years later descendants of the original herds of fallow deer can be seen roaming in the Deer Park.
Tour 1 Guided Tour of the House, and hear of its famous visitors, including writers, artists and Royalty, learn about the devastating damage caused during the bombing raids on WWII and enjoy the stunning views of Plymouth Sound.
Tour 2 (Spring only) The Head gardener, Lee Stenning is one of the World's leading authorities on Camelias and Mount Edgcumbe are proud to contain the UK national Camelia Collection, including done varieties only found here the Collection with Lee, and find out everything you need to know about these fantastic plants, this is an exclusive tour for any gardener and stunning views
Tour 3 The Formal Garden. Much of the original 17th Century layout from the formal gardens remains, and this has also been steadily extended over the years right up to the present day. This tour with the Head Gardener visits the Formal gardens, and you will hear the story and concepts of its development, right up to the present day.
Tour 4 The tree lovers Tour. Mount Edgcumbe has a stunning collection of trees and this tour with Head ranger Nick explores these magnificent specimens on show. In addition, try your hand at water divining also called dowsing! This ancient art has confounded science, and here is your chance to give it a try, whether you are a cynic or a believer in the unexplained!
For the less able we can prove Transport of the form of a Golf Buggy or Landover or for the more adventurous passenger why not try taking a Segway around the stunning gardens and landscapes
Just over the Tamar, Antony House was the location for the hit 'Alice in Wonderland' 2010. Here you can explore its formal gardens, sculptures and the National Collection of Daylilies.
