November is upon us and while that may meaning shorter days and cooler nights it does mean that there is plenty of exciting events set to take place in Plymouth.
From Bonfire Night celebrations at the beginning of the month, to the start of Christmas events in Plymouth later on, there’s plenty of things to do in Britain’s Ocean City this month! Take a look at some of the top events taking place in Plymouth this November.
Bonfire Night
Bonfire Night is back once again on Plymouth Hoe! Remember remember to flock to the Hoe on the fifth November, for a memorable evening of Bonfire and firework celebrations. The fun begins at 4pm when the fairground rides open on The Promenade, soon followed by the tasty food stalls at 5pm.
The action gets underway at 7pm when the enormous Bonfire is lit next to Smeaton’s Tower before a mesmerising firework display takes to the skies over the Citadel at 7:30pm. The event is free to attend, although entry to rides and food will incur a cost.

City Centre Christmas Lights Switch-On
Christmas in Plymouth officially begins on Thursday 14 November when the Christmas Lights are switched on in the city centre. Don’t miss live music from 3pm in the newly-refurbished Old Town Square as Manuka perform their Christmas playlist. This will soon be followed by the switching on of the Christmas Lights in Drake Circus at 5pm!
Watch out for the snow flurries in the streets to celebrate the occasion before heading to the Piazza for the headline event! Look to the stage as Santa, The Lord Mayor and a soon-to-be announced special guest switch on the lights at 6:30pm. Barbican Christmas Lights Switch-On
The festive fun continues on Saturday 16 November as the Barbican Christmas Lights are switched on, bringing a Christmassy glow to the historic streets beside the water.
A whole afternoon of free fun is in store with activities and things to do during the day, including live music performances, Santas Grotto, a snow globe, a dog show and more to look forward to. Furthermore, there are plenty of traders to discover during the afternoon where you can pick up the perfect gift for Christmas. Plymouth Christmas Market
The Christmas fun continues at the end of the month on Thursday 28 November when Plymouth Christmas Market returns to the city centre. Head to the piazza and check out the wide variety of traders in festive-themed log cabin stalls. The market begins at the end of the month and runs until Sunday 15 December.
Exhibitons at The Box
Visit the latest exhibitions at The Box this month. There’s new sights to see at The Museum which is free-to-visit near Plymouth city centre. Newly unveiled exhibits include magnificent paintings at Land Sea Sky, featuring artworks from Ingrid Pollard, JMW Turner and Vija Celmins. Paul Rooney’s A broken Token film explores the idea of home during times of conflict and Devonport 200 which marks the 200 year anniversary since the Dock changed its name to Devonport.
Christmas celebrations begin at Saltram
The iconic Saltram House opens it’s doors for Christmas from Friday 22 November! Explore the beautiful grounds of Saltram with the magical Christmas trail, and gaze at the festive displays around the gardens.
Meet Santa Claus for festive-themed story telling as well as at his magical grotto, then enjoy a mince pie in the winter courtyard cafe.
Christmas at Saltram runs until 1 January, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the festivities.
Plymouth's Winter Wonderland returns
Just a day later on Friday 15 November Plymouth’s Winter Wonderland opens in Central Park. Home to the city’s largest ice rink, Santa’s Grotto, live music, festive food stalls, rides and an apres ski bar. Plymouth’s Winter Wonderland runs until 1 January and is a must-visit in Plymouth during the festive season.
