Theatre Royal Plymouth is the largest theatre in the south west and has many a fantastic show which are well worth a watch!

Situated in Plymouth city centre, it's surrounded by many terrific places to go for a bite to eat, before or after, you've marvelled at the theatrics.

If you're looking for somewhere to go for food before or after your show, take a look at some of our top suggestions.

                  

The Barcode

There are plenty of places to eat at one of the city centre's most striking structures, Drake Circus, The Barcode.

The venue, opposite the Drake Circus Shopping Centre, is home to several well-known chain restaurants that are always a popular choice. Pizza faves such as Zizzi and Franco Manca are there, if you're after something more exotic there's Las Iguanas offering a taste of Latin America or the iconic Nandos.

Burger lovers fear not as a Five Guys is also available on-site as well as Cosy Club, a Brewdog for beer fans and even a Kaspars if you're after something sweet!

All these venues are housed within the vicinity of the Barcode which is just a ten-minute walk from the theatre!

                      

The Bank Pub

Located literally next door to the Theatre Royal, places to eat before the theatre don't get much closer than The Bank Pub.

The clue's in the name, this pub is a former bank and is one of the rare survivors of the World War Two bombing raids of Plymouth. Its pristine exterior is matched by its atmospheric beauty inside, with many striking features across two levels plus the beer garden.

Serving up traditional pub grub, it's a fantastic venue for a pre-show meal and a drink.

                     

Fletcher's Restaurant

Experience fine dining at Fletcher's Restaurant in Plymouth city centre. Feast on a gastronomic adventure at the hidden gem just moments away from the Theatre Royal.

The restaurant is a proud recipient of the prestigious Michelin recommendation and boasts two Rosettes in  The AA Guide. If you're feeling fancy, treat yourself to the ten-course taster menu, with highlights including hand-dived scallops, pigeon wellington and white chocolate tart. It's the perfect pre-theatre treat.

                     

Olive and Twist

A new addition to Drake Circus' independent quarter, the cocktail bar and restaurant is a great venue for a laid-back meal.

With sharing boards, brunches and delicious drinks, Olive and Twist provides a great destination to grab a bite to eat before heading to the Theatre. The cocktails are definitely worth a try!

                   

Turtle Bay

Grab a taste of the Caribbean at Turtle Bay! Next to Drake Circus, The Barcode, it's just ten minutes walk from the theatre and always promises a tasty meal!

Dishes are brimming with spicy hues and bursting with fresh, vibrant flavours. The jerk chicken is a must!

                      

Plymouth Market

You'll find plenty of delicious food in Plymouth Market. Just moments away from the Theatre, the Market is home to plenty of delicious traders, offering flavours from across the world.

                            

Zephyr Burgers

If you're after a burger before your show look no further than Zephyr Burgers, previous winners of the National Burger award in 2022.

Championing the mouthwatering smash burgers, you may need to prepare to get messy at Zephyr, as their packed burgers are dripping with delicious ingredients. Be sure to leave room for the sides too, the loaded fries are fantastic!
