The West End Carnival is back for another year on Saturday 24 August! 

Join us at the West End Carnival in the streets around Plymouth Market for a fun packed day for the whole family from 11am until 4pm. The theme for this year is Dragons and Mythical Beasts and there is plenty of free-fun to be had during the day including the carnival parade, a trail, live performances and more.

Where and when is it?

The West End Carnival takes place on Saturday 24 June, 11am to 4pm in the streets in and around Plymouth Market.

The event is free to attend, however trader prices will vary.

                

Moxy Hotel preview evening

Enjoy a spectacular and electrifying carnival preview dragon event the night before the West End Carnival on Friday 23 August at the Moxy Hotel, Millbay Road.

No pre-booking required.

                       

What to see and do

Enjoy a whole host of amazing circus performers, carnival rides, stalls, dragon and REACH Wrestling meet and greets, live music, and the opportunity to admire the Vintage Cars in the heart of the city centre. Don’t miss the opportunity to win prizes with the new West End Carnival trail.

Carnival Parade

See a huge smoke breathing dragon and more mythical characters as part of the colourful procession of performers at the West End Carnival Parade, starting at Frankfort Gate at 11am, travelling up New George Street and down Cornwall Street before returning to Frankfort Gate at 12pm.

Carnival entertainment

Expect lots of colourful and exciting performances throughout the day, with the odd fire eater thrown in for good measure! There’s also the opportunity to take a selfie with a dragon, vintage cars or REACH Wrestlers.

Live Music

Enjoy live music at Market Avenue, curated by Heyday Events. Several live performances are set to take place across the afternoon to add to the vibrant carnival atmosphere.

Don’t miss the Silent Disco at Market Avenue North. Immerse yourself in the ultimate entertainment experience, through wireless headphones.

Carnival Trail

Pick-up your FREE West End Carnival trail map from Daamn Good Bakes, New George Street from 10 to 24 August. Join in with our Carnival Trail around the West End as part of our West End Carnival event and collect some sweet treats to enjoy once you’ve found them all. Daamn Good Bakes are giving a bag of their delicious mini-cookies to the first 30 people to complete the trail.

How to get here

Plymouth is superbly located for day visits from Cornwall (A38), the South Hams (A379) and Mid Devon (A386). Plymouth is also well served by three Park & Ride sites located off the A38 at Marsh Mills and off the A379 at Derriford and Milehouse, as well as regular bus journeys into Royal Parade in the city centre.

If you are driving, look out for car park signs when you arrive, nearby multi storey car parks can be found at the Theatre Royal and Western Approach.

Access Information

All areas of the event are accessible and there are plenty of benches to rest on in the city centre.There are public toilets, including disabled toilets, on Armada Way. 
If you find yourself needing any help on the day, please look out for the stewards in yellow jackets or event staff in orange jackets as they will be happy to help.

The following road closures will be in place for the West End Carnival on Saturday 24 June.

New George Street West - from junction w/ Raleigh Street

Market Avenue in its entirety

Cornwall Street – from Market Avenue to junction w/ Market Way

Market Way* - from Junction w/ Cornwall Street to junction w/ Mayflower Street West

Colin Campbell Court – junction w/ Market Avenue (access still permitted via Western Approach)
