About us

Dartmoor Zoo, connecting people and wildlife.

Join us for a fun packed, animal filled day, on the edge of one of the UK’s most beautiful landscapes.

Hidden on the borders of Dartmoor National Park, Dartmoor Zoo boasts a wonderful 33 acres of woodland, celebrating a wide range of exotic and native animals, including the biggest variety of big cats in the South West of England. From a tiger, a lion and cheetahs, to monkeys, meerkats and tapir, you’re bound to find some of your favourites. With our unique enclosure designs, you’ll also feel closer to these amazing animals than ever before.

Home of the Hollywood film 'We bought a Zoo', Dartmoor Zoo is a charity dedicated to wildlife conservation, education and research. We work hard to ensure that the development of the Zoo does not have an adverse effect on the beautiful woodland environment.

There are regular daily events such as public talks at feeding times, animal encounters and special activities for the family during the holidays such as trails and face-painting.

To refuel during the day, our Jaguar Restaurant is a great place to stop off for a coffee and cake or a freshly cooked lunch and there's space set aside for the under-fives to have in-door fun. Our gift shop is also located inside and is stocked full of unique gifts, cuddly toys, branded souvenirs and many more items suitable for all ages!

Dartmoor Zoo is open from 10am every day (closed on 24th, 25th and 26th December).

Closing times vary throughout the year so please check our website to find out more.

This will take you past Langage Business Park to Sparkwell village which we are just on the far side of. If you are arriving from Plympton, continue on the B3416 towards the Chaddlewood roundabout, then continue straight on towards Sparkwell village. Once you get to Sparkwell, drive through the village and you'll find us approximately 300 yards on your left.

Bus services are usually reliable. Please note that the type of bus used by Target Travel for this route is the small type with a small staircase up to the driver. Parents travelling on their own may find it difficult to get their push chair onto the bus without help. The 59 leaves Royal Parade (stop A8) in Plymouth City Centre, takes around 30 minutes and stops at our main gate.

Parking

There is free parking adjacent to the main entrance.

Disabled parking facilities are available outside the Jaguar Restaurant at the top of the drive.

Should you wish to make use of disabled parking, please pay at the main gate before proceeding to the top of the drive.
