Location:
Southampton

Yomp and Chomp
This is a walking and eating tour exploring the food and history from 400 years ago when the Mayflower sailed from West Quay in late July 1620. Many of the buildings that still exist in Southampton would have been seen by the Pilgrims as they spent time in the city waiting for repairs to the sister ship the Speedwell to be completed. We will taste typically Tudor foods and drinks in building that date from before 1600.
Led by your guide dressed in Tudor garb, you will see the Pilgrim Father's Monument that commemorates the departure of the Pilgrim Fathers from Southampton to America on 15 August 1620 on board the 'Mayflower’. We will taste typically Tudor beer in the oldest pub in the city, eat locally produced pork in a 14th century warehouse. Within the walls of the old city, you can try the bread and cheeses made from ancient recipes.
The Highlights:
- Taste the Typical foods the Pilgrims would have eaten
- See the Mayflower Monument
- Visit buildings the Pilgrims would have seen in 1620
- Taste the drinks the local Tudor population drank
