Les Ellis and the Dartmouth Town Guides
Dartmouth is one of Devon’s hidden gems, a ‘piece of heaven in Devon’ and is steeped in maritime history dating back a thousand years. It has featured in the Crusades, the triangular trade with America and Europe, was the location of the Speedwell repairs when sailing alongside the Mayflower to The New World, and latterly it played an important role the Second World War. Much of this history can be seen and learned from your walk around this historic town. Step back in time and experience the parts of Dartmouth for which time has stood still.
Dartmouth Guided History Tours offer a 1 to 2 hour walking tour of Dartmouth around the most important buildings and places, all within a comfortable walking distance. Meeting at the Museum we will head to the Visitor Centre where the Tour starts. Although there are believed to be over 10,000 steps in Dartmouth, we do not go up any, only down a few. The route is all on the flat and is wheelchair friendly and families and dog walkers are all welcome.
Your guide is Dartmouth's long standing and award-winning town crier, Les, accompanied by his wife and consort Liz, dressed in their 18th Century Regalia. Les is supported by a small team of local town guides who all share their personal stories of life in Dartmouth. ‘Good to go’ Certified with Covid-safe protocols in place.
