A fantastic opportunity to visit one of England’s last great Wilderness areas, Dartmoor National Park, combined with a truly unique experience…the chance to see first-hand the skills of a world class
sheep dog handler.

Upon leaving Plymouth, our expert guide will point out places of interest in this historic maritime city before heading up to the National Park. The untamed landscape of Dartmoor has been the stuff of
legends for centuries and was the inspiration behind Conan Doyle's’ epic Sherlock Homes detective story ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles.’

Look out for the pretty but hardy Dartmoor ponies and the towering granite outcrops known as Tors. Explore the remains of a 3000 year-old settlement, with mysterious stone rows and circles. Journey on to the remote community of Princetown, where the landscape is dominated by Dartmoor Prison. Hear intriguing stories about notorious inmates of this imposing 19th Century high security jail and their daring escapes. Princetown is a great place to stop for lunch. After a break we’ll make a short journey to Postbridge with an 800 year-old clapper bridge which makes for a memorable photographic setting, before the highlight of the day.

Jed Watson is a champion class shepherd and the current Sheepdog Trial Team Captain for England. You will see the inspiring partnership between man and working dog, including novices right up to the dogs which have achieved national competition wins. Heading back to the Port, we will stop at a well-known local inn, where you will have the choice of a pint of locally brewed ale, or sample a delicious Devonshire Clotted cream tea, before returning to the
ship.
