Essex Record Office
The Essex Record Office (ERO) is the storehouse of Essex history, caring for nearly 1,000 years’ worth of our county’s history.
The ERO is based in Chelmsford, which is approximately halfway between London and Harwich. Collections include parish registers of baptisms, marriages, and burials, in some cases dating back to 1538, and thousands of wills, dating from the 1400s-1858. If you have Essex ancestors, there’s a good chance you will find traces of them and the places they lived in our unique collections.
