Economy is worth £5.2 billion in terms of gross value added. Plymouth’s youth unemployment is its lowest in 20 years. Recent NESTA research showed that Plymouth ranked 8th highest in the country on the proportion of business claimed as “high-growth alongside the likes of Oxford and Cambridge”.

Manufacturing
Worth approximately £800 million and equating to 12% of the labour force, Plymouth has the highest concentration of manufacturing and engineering employment of any city south of the Midlands.
Marine
20% of blue-tech/marine employment in the UK is in Plymouth (circa 14,000 employees). Oceansgate will see the regeneration of 18 acres in a redundant historic dockyard transformed to the new home of marine enterprise in Plymouth.
Tourism and Hospitality
Plymouth is a waterfront city packed full of attractions, activities , shopping and sightseeing opportunities. The city host just under 5 million visitors annually, generating £316 million spend, and supporting 7500 jobs.
